This route promises a day rich in variety, sweeping views, and a full dose of the dolce vita spirit of Italy’s lakes. Begin with the grandeur of Lake Maggiore, where a boat trip takes you to the iconic Borromean Islands – Isola Bella, Isola Madre and Isola dei Pescatori – each like a fairy tale come to life. Then cycle at a relaxed pace around the charming Lake Varese, a hidden gem with gently rolling shores and the imposing Sacro Monte di Varese watching over the town. Be sure to stop at the one-of-a-kind Moto Guzzi Museum in Mandello del Lario before embracing the western side of Lake Como. Cycling enthusiasts can enjoy a scenic loop around Lake Mezzola – a haven for outdoor lovers. Next, venture into the majestic Valtellina Valley. Dare to cross the dizzying Ponte nel Cielo – a dramatic suspension bridge stretched high above a deep gorge. Stop in Tirano, a charming pilgrimage town and the gateway to the legendary Bernina Express.
